The Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation (SBTHP) is hosting a Veterans Day Ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park. This free public event features a ceremony conducted by members of Los Soldados del Real de Santa Bárbara to honor armed service veterans, their families, and currently serving military members.

A keynote address will be given by guest speaker Dr. Rose Hayden Smith, author of “Sowing the Seeds of Victory: American Gardening Programs of World War I”.  A reception and book signing will follow the event.

Dr. Rose Hayden Smith Biography Hayden-Smith develops programs for youth and adult extenders in food systems/agricultural literacy, garden-based learning and youth and community gardening.  Hayden-Smith is also a practicing U.S. historian, and a nationally-recognized expert in federal policy relating to agriculture/education and the American home front in wartime.  A Kellogg Food and Society Policy Fellow, her national advocacy work focuses on encouraging a national effort to promote public policy relating to food systems, gardening, education and urban agriculture.
