Archaeology/Preservation Intern

Associate Director of Cultural Resources
Overview
We are currently recruiting a part-time, paid intern for a ten-week period beginning in October 2022 to work with SBTHP’s programs staff. Preference will be given to applicants with strong interests in museum studies, informal education, and history.
Scope of Duties

Drawing/Sketching historic building fabric and/or features prior to removal

Archaeological excavation of soil beneath existing porch deck

Drawing/Sketching archaeological features related to the Plaza de Armas, Warehouse, and Corrals of the Santa Barbara Presidio.

Laboratory processing of materials excavated from the Rochin Adobe porch

Cataloging of materials processed from the Rochin Adobe porch

Qualifications

Upper-division undergraduate student or graduate student standing preferred

Experience and interest in historic archaeology, history, historic preservation, museum studies, and/or public history

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Excellent writing and communication skills

Ability to work well with a diverse group of people

Experience working with Microsoft Office and Adobe Programs

Development & Events Intern
Reports to
Director of Membership and Event Rentals
Overview
We are currently recruiting a part-time, paid intern for a ten-week period beginning in September 2022 to work with SBTHP’s development and event rental staff. Preference will be given to applicants with strong interests in branding, event management, and marketing.
Under the supervision of the Director of Membership & Event Rentals, the intern duties may include:
1. An in-depth introduction to SBTHP’s history, development programs, and rental spaces.
2. Analyze and streamline the existing rental process to find efficiencies and/or provide enhanced customer service.
3. Work in depth with clients to understand how to run a rental program, including leading client site visits and responding to client inquiries.
4. Help create content for digital distribution (email, website, and social media) that helps promote SBTHP’s membership and event rental programs.
5. Refine and/or concept future membership/donor events and support SBTHP Development events as needed.
Qualifications
Upper division undergraduate student or graduate student standing. Experience and interest in branding, design, history, event rentals, communication, and nonprofit studies. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent writing and communication skills. Ability to work well with a diverse group of people. Experience working with Microsoft Office and Canva.
