Student Tours

School groups may schedule a visit to the Presidio or Casa de la Guerra free of charge throughout the year. Tours are one hour long and led by volunteer docents. Donations towards our docent program are always welcome.

If you wish to schedule a docent-led tour for your school group, please use our online reservation form or call (805) 965-0093 at least three weeks in advance of your desired tour date. While online reservations can be submitted at any time, tour reservations are taken by phone from 9:00am – 1:00pm on business days.

We recommend that you review the pre-visit materials appropriate for your class before your visit. You might also take a look at the traveling trunks available for presentation to your class before or after your visit.

Tour the Presidio & the Santa Barbara Historical Museum

The Dual Tour Program is a partnership between the Santa Barbara Historical Museum (SBHM) and SBTHP. Located just half a block away from one another in downtown Santa Barbara, the Dual Tour Program allows teachers the opportunity to enhance their students’ experience with a visit to both historical sites in the Presidio Neighborhood. This convenient and comprehensive two-hour experience will allow your students to see and learn more!

The Dual Tour includes:

  • Complimentary docent-led, interactive tours through the SBHM galleries, courtyards, and historical adobes and a comprehensive, interactive tour of El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park with an emphasis on everyday life in and around the Presidio at the height of its function as a Spanish fort (from 1782 to the early 19th century).

  • Discussion-based lessons that encourage critical thinking skills about local history from the time of the Chumash to the Mid-20th century and time for Q and A.

  • Time to explore gift shops at each site and locations on each site for eating lunch after both tours completed.

If you wish to schedule a dual tour of SBHM and El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park for your school group, please use our online dual tour reservation form.
